Previously I have used Windows Firewall and MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) with the monthly Windows Defender, but the PC builder claims MSE has failed some evaluations recently and recommended the avast! free product - but

It seems this requires an upgrade to a purchased version of avast! even though this is not stated anywhereģ. Looking and checking several search variations I cannot find anything to support or refute the claim 'avast firewall' and 'avast SAFE ZONE' are compatible with Windows Firewall, or that they have a track record of playing nicelyĢ. In the past day the avast! free product has begun to open windows, at first startup, and at other times, suggesting or inviting me to activate the "avast firewall" and something called "Safe Zone" - not exactly hectoring or trying to scare me, butġ.
